Checklist: Will the venue be able to provide a 6 foot banquet table for me to set up on?
Will I have access to the room at least 2 hours before guests arrive?
What does your contract with the venue say about the time music must end?
Does your venue lock up the doors at a particular time, or am I free to pack up for at least 45 minutes after
Social hour music is usually Sinatra-style jazz standards and big band for a classy, upbeat mood.
Dinner is usually upbeat, light, solo piano playing the American Songbook.
Do you have any special music requests for social hour or dinner?
Is Social hour in an area away from where I am set up? If so, would you like to add a second sound system for
music in that area?
GRAND ENTRANCE: You can customize this however you like, but the ideal plan is to have a 5 minute warning
announcement 10 minutes before food will be ready....so that 5 minutes before food is served, the
introductions, brief welcome, and other instructions finish up just in time. I will learn to pronounce the first
and last names of all of the people you would like me to introduce. The photographer and I will line you up
and plot the path to the head table. I will aim a spot light at the door you come in through, and ask the couples
to stop in the doorway as I introduce them...Music for the fist phase of introductions can be changed just
before the bride and groom: For example, the wedding party could enter while I play "Celebration" by Kool
and the Gang" and then change to "Turn Down for What" to build up excitement for the Bride and Groom.
The PATH from the door to the head table could have a spot marked with an X where each couple pauses for a
photo, while doing some sort of pose.
GRAND ENTRANCE FOLLOW UP: Will someone say grace? Will there be a welcome speech? What will be the
table release instructions if it is a buffet?
Clinking Routine Ideas: ___Provide me with a list of other couples who will be there, so I have one of them
get up and show you how to kiss each time the guests start clinking ___Tables rise and sing a song with the
word "love" in it ___Tables rise and dance for 20 seconds to anything I play Other:________
CAKE CUTTING: Timing is usually right after toasts, but you can customize this.
Cake Cutting Song Ideas:
___"How Sweet it is to be Loved by You" (James Taylor) ___ "Sugar Sugar" (Archies)
___"Sugar" by Maroon 5, ____"Pour Some Sugar On Me" ____ "Yummy Yummy Yummy" or
Sometimes there are two money-collection boxes set up during dinner, and the one who gets the most earns
the right to squish a piece of cake in the face of the other spouse.
This could be saved for later on, as a break in the action during the dance, to allow guests more time to enter.
Sometimes this is done in place of the dollar dance.
Toast Timing: It is best to wait for all guests to have food before starting it. If I am served last, then I use that
as my cue to walk up to the head table and ask if they are ready to start. I then bring them my cordless
microphone and I go back, bring down the dinner music, and introduce the person starting the toasts using
my second microphone. Will there be a champagne pour to wait for?
SHOE GAME: This is usually right before the first dance and takes only 2-3 minutes, but helps gather people
around the dance floor to be ready for the first dance.
How to announce your names: "Let's welcome_____________________________________________to the
dance floor for their first dance as a married couple."
Let me know the song title, artist and version of the song you'd like for your first dance.
Second and Third spotlight dances are usually a Father/Daughter then Mother/Son dance. You can arrange
this any way you like- some photographers like a reverse order.... let me know which dances you will do, the
songs, and who each dance is for.
Mother/Son Music Ideas: "A Mother's Song" by T Carter Music, "A Mother's Prayer" by Melissa Duvall, "The
Man You've Become" by T Carter Music, and "It Happens in a Heartbeat" by Wedding Music Central.
Father/Daughter Music Ideas: "I Loved Her First" by Heartland Either or a combination F/D M/S: "The Way
You Look Tonight" "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, "Have I Told You Lately" by Rod Stewart,
"Forever Young" by Rod Stewart. Feel free to mix up bit of fast songs in the parent dances to surprise the
After the "Spotlight" dances, I could #1 play a slow song for everyone, #2 play a fast song for the wedding
party who would go out and bring more guests to the dance floor each time I say "Snowball" #3 introduce the
photographer, get her to stand up on a ladder or chair and take a group photo on the dance floor, or #4 play
the latest upbeat hit for everyone ("Uptown Funk" has been the best dance party kick off song since it came
out, but you can go in any direction you like).
Later on, after 5 to 10 dance songs, would you like to do any of these?
____Anniversary Dance Routine:
I ask all married couples to dance-and gradually eliminate them
until the couple that has been married the longest remains on the floor. I then run out and interview the
oldest couple on the cordless microphone and ask their name, how many years they have been married and
what advice they have for the new couple.
____Bouquet Toss: After the Anniversary Dance, the dance floor is cleared, so the timing is perfect to get the
single ladies out there and toss the bouquet. I usually play Beyonce "Put a Ring on It" as they come out.
Other music ideas include "Dear Future Husband" by Meghan Trainor
____Garter Removal: I have a "sexy approach" routine with special music so the groom will need to try out
different songs as he walks toward the new bride so we can see his "sexy walk" - I set this up so the bride is
in a chair on one end of the floor and he starts on the opposite end. Would that be OK?
____Garter Toss: I play a TV Football theme as we gather bachelors to catch the garter.
____Dollar Dance: Who will usher/collect?_____________________________
____Last Song of the Night:____________________________________________
Apx. Time to BEGIN the final song:_______
END OF NIGHT TRADITIONS: Piano Man group hug circle, Closing Time Sing Along, Shout! from Animal House,
Don't Stop Believing, Euro-Pop Take Me Home Country Roads, Sweet Caroline, DJ Kool Let Me Clear My
Throat with SHOUT OUTS, Macklemore "And We Danced" where I fill in the name of the bride and groom in the
spot where we pledge allegiance.
MORE IDEAS are available, and I will expand on the above ideas in our planning sessions.
