Let me know if you will be having music that is offensive to sensitive ears, and if you want to hold off until the
children and elderly guests have left. Examples of popular explicit tracks that don't have good clean
versions:
___"S.O.B." by Nataniel Rateliff ___"Get Low" by Lil Jon ____"Work B*tch" by Britney Spears,

____"Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners ____"500 Miles" by the Proclaimers
___Polka (If you only want one polka, I suggest "Beer Barrel Polka")
___Ballroom Slow Waltz ____Old Time Waltz (Tuba) Music associated with locations guests are from:
Are there any particular cities, regions, countries, continents or cultural groups with special music to mix into
the social hour, dinner music or dance?
___Take turns dancing w/the bride to "I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock and Roll" by Nick Lowe
Venue Questions: Please look for these two items in your rental agreement:
Is there a time, such as 10PM, when the volume of the music must be reduced, for neighbors?
Does your venue lock up the doors at a particular time at the end of the night? I need at least 45 minutes from
the time music stops to be packed up. Other venue questions, such as access to the area, parking, lighting
controls could be handled between myself and the venue. Who is your contact there?
Social hour music is usually Sinatra-style jazz standards and big band for a classy, upbeat mood.
Dinner is usually upbeat, light, solo piano playing the American Songbook.
Do you have any special music requests for social hour or dinner?
GRAND ENTRANCE: You can customize this however you like, but the ideal plan is to have a 5 minute warning
announcement 10 minutes before food will be ready....so that 5 minutes before food is served, the
introductions, brief welcome, and other instructions finish up just in time. I will learn to pronounce the first
and last names of all of the people you would like me to introduce. The photographer and I will line you up
and plot the path to the head table. Please send an email to discjockeypaulyoung@gmail.com or call
952.239.4115 with the names for the Introductions. Any names that are hard to pronounce should be spelled
out the way they sound. I will read off the names as they line up before entering.
MUSIC FOR GRAND ENTRANCE:_________________________________________________________
GRAND ENTRANCE FOLLOW UP: Will there be a welcome speech? Will someone say grace? Any clinking
instructions or table release instructions?
Clinking Routine Ideas: ___Provide me with a list of other couples who will be there, so I have one of them
get up and show you how to kiss each time the guests start clinking ___Tables rise and sing a song with the
word "love" in it Other:________
CAKE CUTTING: Timing is usually right after toasts, but you can customize this. The photographer usually
initiates the cake cutting timing. Will your cake cutting be able to be viewed by guests?
Cake Cutting Song Ideas:
___"How Sweet it is to be Loved by You" (James Taylor) ___ "Sugar Sugar" (Archies)
___"Sugar" by Maroon 5, ____"Pour Some Sugar On Me" ____ "Yummy Yummy Yummy"
Toast Timing: It is best to wait for all guests to have food before starting it. If I am served last, then I use that
as my cue to walk up to the head table and ask if they are ready to start. I then bring them my cordless
microphone and I go back, bring down the dinner music, and introduce the person starting the toasts using
my second microphone. Will there be a champagne pour to wait for? I have TWO microphones, so I bring one
to the head table, then go back to the DJ table to introduce who will be speaking.
ORDER OF SPEECHES:_______________________________________________________
Sometimes a parent or two will make a speech before dinner- The caterers, photographers and I will need to
know in advance if there are any people who want to add a surprise pre-dinner speech.
IN DEPTH PLANNING: Sometimes the people making toasts have a song snippet for me to play during the
toast, or as a follow up for 10 seconds after the toast- if you want to ask them, I'd like to add their music
(movie themes, TV show themes, novelty songs about hobbies/locations/sports are all fun ideas)
VIDEO TOASTS: A few times I've been contacted by someone making a toast to set up a surprise video
presentation to go with their toasts. You are welcome to have anyone contact me directly for surprise
arrangements.
Sometimes sunset photos change the plans. Are you leaving the reception for sunset photos?
TIME BETWEEN END OF TOASTS AND BEGINNING OF DANCE: I usually play "Cool Jazz" such as "Take 5" by
Dave Brubeck at this time, but sometimes a low-volume KIDS show fits in here. If you will have a lot of kids
playing on the dance floor after they finish eating, I have 90 minutes of activity songs such as "Baby Shark"
and the "Freeze Game" Would you like a "Pre-Dance Kids Dance?"
SHOE GAME: This is usually right before the first dance and takes only 2-3 minutes, but helps gather people
around the dance floor to be ready for the first dance. I have fine-tuned the best questions in a flow now that
gets the most laughs. I often customize with info heard during toasts or ideas you send in advance. If you
have a pet, I would like to know the name so it can be included. Let me know if you are known for having any
collections, hobbies or if you are fans of any particular sports teams.
Would you like to do the Shoe Game? _____For a video showing me doing the Shoe Game see "Examples" tab
above. Note: Questions vary.
If not certain, should I ask you again after cake and toasts are finished, and see how you feel about using it to
gather people around just before the first dance?
FIRST DANCE:
How to announce your names: "Let's welcome_____________________________to the dance floor for their
first dance as a married couple."
Let me know the song title, artist and version of the song you'd like for your first dance.
Second and Third spotlight dances are usually a Father/Daughter then Mother/Son dance.
Idea: Send me audio files with spoken messages for me to mix into the music during the spotlight dances
Would you like a special multi-song edit created in advance for any of the spotlight dances?
After the "Spotlight" dances, I could #1 play a slow song for everyone, #2 play a fast song for the wedding
party who would go out and bring more guests to the dance floor each time I say "Snowball" #3 introduce the
photographer, get her to stand up on a ladder or chair and take a group photo on the dance floor, or #4 play
the latest upbeat hit for everyone ("Uptown Funk" has been the best dance party kick off song since it came
out, but you can go in any direction you like).
Later on, after 5 to 10 dance songs, would you like to do any of these?
____Anniversary Dance Routine:
I ask all married couples to dance-and gradually eliminate them
until the couple that has been married the longest remains on the floor. I then run out and interview the
oldest couple on the cordless microphone and ask their name, how many years they have been married and
what advice they have for the new couple.
____Bouquet Toss: After the Anniversary Dance, the dance floor is cleared, so the timing is perfect to get the
single ladies out there and toss the bouquet. I play Beyonce "Put a Ring on It" as they come out.
TIP: The bouquet should be brought to the DJ table before the dance. Follow up: Should the catcher lead a
conga line after?
____Garter Removal Routine: See "Examples" tab above (3 phases: a sexy approach, removal, then gathering
of bachelors) Follow up could be the bachelors being required to stay on the floor for a special dance.
____Dollar Dance: Who will usher/collect?_____________________________
____Sparkler Send Off? If you plan to have guests go outside to light sparklers, let me know.
____Closing Time Music: ___Don't Stop Believing ___Piano Man ___Closing Time ___Red Peters (explicit)
__Happy Trails ___Goodnight, Sweetheart ___We Are Young (.fun) ___Reprise of 1st Dance OTHER:
